The drone won't launch due to magnetic interference. Compass calibration. |
The drone was powered on next to a log of metal. This causes the internal compass to fail. |
Power the drone off and move the drone to a spot a least 6 meters from the closest metal source and power the drone back on. |
|
|
The drone has not been flown in a while or it has moved to a different magnetic zone since the last flight. The compass needs to be recalibrated. |
On the flight controller and with the drone powered on, click the 3 dots in the upper right-hand corner. Toggle through the options until you find compass calibration. Follow the instructions on the flight controller. |
|
Drone fails to launch due to weak RTK Signal. |
We do not fly with RTK, we fly PPK and the RTK connection needs to be toggled off. |
On the flight controller and with the drone powered on, click the 3 dots in the upper right-hand corner. Toggle through the options until you find RTK. Ensure that RTK is toggled off. |
|
Drone will not launch due to no-fly zone. |
During the drone's flight path, it will enter controlled airspace which requires acceptance of liability. |
Validate the ceiling height for the drone flight using a flight planning app of their choosing. Ensure that the flight height (including RTH height) is below the ceiling identified by the flight planning app. |
On the flight controller and with the drone powered on, click the 3 dots in the upper right-hand corner. Toggle through the options until you find general setting. In general setting you can set the max altitude for the flight. Ensure that is below the identified ceiling. |

Return to home screen using the DJI in the upper left-hand corner. Ensure your flight controller is connected to the internet and hit "FLY". Accept the 3 boxes and press continue. Hit DJI again and find the flight you've planned. It should allow you to launch. |
If the airspace requires approval, this can be obtained by going to https://www.dji.com/flysafe. This may require up to 72 hours and approval from nearby airport. The customer will need the drone flight controller serial number which can only be obtained while the controller is connected to the drone with both powers turned on. |
The drone is not taking pictures of the whole survey area. |
Either the SD Card is full or needs to be formatted. |
Delete old photos off the SD card to clear space. |
Format the SD card by following these steps: https://help.propelleraero.com/en/articles/563. |
The drone periodically loses connection with the flight controller. |
The drone and controller are losing connection and the drone will return to home (RTH) after 30 seconds of not being connected. |
Ensure the drone is within line of site and the flight controller is aimed toward the drone. If it is still losing connection, ensure the flight controller bunny ears are not damaged. |
|
Can't adjust flight path for the wind. |
|
Grab the yellow circle and spin. The flight path and way points should change as you drag the yellow circle in a circular motion. |
|
I needed to swap batteries; how do I relaunch drone. |
After the drone is powered off. We have to reselect the mission. |
On the left-hand side of the screen there should be something that looks like a file. Click the file. On the drop down, select Missions in Progress. Select the mission you are on. You should now be allowed to launch the drone again. |
|
Drone gets to first way point and sits there. |
Wind speed is too high. |
Bring the drone by home by pressing and holding the home button. Lower the elevation of your flight by 10 meters and relaunch drone. |
Repeat until you find an altitude that the wind speed is not too high or fly on a calmer day. |
|
Elevation is above the ceiling for the drone flight. |
On the bottom of the flight controller, verify the elevation of your drone and ensure that it isn't above the flight ceiling. Bring the drone home and modify your mission below the approved ceiling for the flight area. |
|
My drone is not turning after hitting the first way point. |
The gimble is not set to -90 |
If on the way point screen, click the camera on the bottom right-hand corner. On the right side of the screen, you should see a sliding bar of numbers and verify it's at -90, most likely it's at -89. This is a bug in Phantom 4 RTK that appears from time to time. Continue the operation if the drone is still going and the upload will be fine. |
If the customer would like to adjust the gimble, call the drone home by pressing and holding the "Home" button on the controller. When the drone is laded, go back to the home screen by pressing the DJI button on the upper left corner. Find your mission under planning and open it. Go to advanced settings and adjust your gimble angle to -90. |

Common Upload Issues
|
|
|
|
I've uploaded my pictures, but I can't advance past the first page. |
The customer did not select the .BIN and .MRK files for all of the flights. |
Every time the drone launches, a new folder is created. Ensure the customer is dragging the folders into the upload process, not just the pictures. |
|
I'm getting an error about camera is not registered. |
This is probably the first flight for this drone. |
Under camera registration, follow the instructions to register the camera. Customer will need to include drone serial number. |
|
When identifying the N, E, El for my aeropoint I get an error message about being more than 20m from expectation. |
The uploading system thinks the AP is in a different spot than it is or the customer input the coordinates incorrect. |
Have the customer double check the coordinates ensuring the Northing and Easting are correct. Sometimes, the customer inputs this backward. |
If N and E are correct, have the customer refresh the screen and start over. Sometimes this is just a glitch. The customer may need to wait for a couple of hours before the system will accept the coordinates. Don't know the cause of this. |
Cannot not proceed after selecting my AP's in step 3. |
The AP's may have already been processed or the customer selected either the wrong date or wrong location for the APs. |
If the AP's had already been processed for that flight, just click the prompt that asks if they'd like to duplicate. |
If the customer selected the wrong date or location, have them double check the location and date of the AP set to ensure it was at the same place and same time as the flight identified in step 2. |
Cannot find AP's when trying to process in step 3. |
Customer does not have access to the AP used. |
Customer will need to be invited to the AP's that are used by someone with that permission. |
